Frightening statistics from the RSA-let’s lower the limit

Looks like we aren’t the only ones who want lower speed limits outside schools. The Road Safety Authority are calling for speed limits of 30 km per hour in cities, towns and most importantly outside schools. An article was published in the Irish Times on April 20th 2016 in which RSA chief executive Moyagh Murdock emphasized the importance of lower speed limits.

She stated that “if you are hit by a vehicle travelling at 30km per hour, you have a nine in 10 chance of surviving.” “If you are hit at 50km per hour, the chances of survival are 50/50, and at 60km per hour this falls to one in 10.” These statistics are truly frightening when we consider the speed limit outside our school is 100 km per hour.
